May 19, 2011 ~ Rafting Trip

Pre-Rafting Trip Pictures
On Thursday, we got up and went down to breakfast. There we learned that we would only be able to go on the two hour Rafting Trip down the New River. We were able to go back to the cabins and pack up a small bag of clothes to change into after the we put in to shore before lunch. We went down to the outside ampitheater to learn about rafting. They then passed out our helmet, oar, and life jacket. If we wanted to pay $5.00 we could get a wet suit/wet jacket or a water repellant jacket to wear on the trip. Many of us took advantage of the discounted offer.

The Father's House Church Service

After the Block Party, we all piled back into the bus and went to Pastor Hill's church. Sister Denise and her team fed us a wonderful spaghetti dinner.

The Block Party

We left The Father's House at 3 PM and went to the Switzwer Center for the Block Party. The students helped get all the stations set-up and we were ready to go by 3:30. We set-up the following tables for the party: Registration, Face Painting, Necklace Making, a Jumpy, DJ table, door prize table, Parachute, Basketball, and a Food Counter.
All the 6th graders did their specific job well and with a great attitude. The neighborhood kids had a blast! The smiles on their faces were so wonderful to see.
Neil and his crew did a great job at the registration table. Jenna and her crew did a outstanding job being the DJs for the afternoon. You will see pictures of all the girls that helped the kids make necklaces and painted faces. Katie, Kloe, Courtney and Mrs. H helped make the hotdogs and chili and set-up all the drinks for the food counter. Many of our boys played basketball with the little boys. The big group played with the parachute almost the whole time.

Quick Update

I will continue with uploading pictures and videos from yesterdays Block Party and church service later today.
You might be wondering what we are going to do on the Rafting Trip. We made a decision with the River Guides help that we will only be doing a 2 hour ride on the New river. It is overcast here but it is not raining and the students are really excited about the trip. I will post more when we get back.

May 18th, 2011 ~ More Serving

Mr. Butson gave devotions this morning about 1 Samuel 11:1+ . We learned about King David and the life choices he made for the good and for the bad. He mentioned that he and Mrs. Long keep tight reigns on them at TCE but they will have more freedom in Jr. High. Mr. Butson asked them to think about what kind of opportunities they have passed up for one reason or another. He gave an example of why a student might have a bad day and it might all come down to one thing that happened first thing in the morning.
Yeah, Jon and his dad made it today to be with us. We are headed for Pastor Hill’s. It is not raining today so we might be able to work on some of the projects that are outside. We have been working hard at My Father's House.

May 17th, 2011 ~ Starting To Serve

It rained all night, but the students were able to sleep well. We walked down to the Servant Center for breakfast by 8 AM. The students all made it up and got to breakfast on time! It is a college cafeteria so there were many things on the menu: Eggs/Bacon/sausage/pancakes/Belgian waffles/wheat or white bread toast/danish/donuts/cereal/grape fruit/bananas/apples.
Mrs. Long led us in another devotion on Luke 6:45, 1 Corinthians 10:13, choices, and how what you put into your mind and body is what comes out.
We made our lunches and headed out to Pastor Hill’s church to serve.

May 16, 2011~ Dinner & The Overlook

We stopped at the Pizza Hut to have supper. It was 53 degrees so Mrs. L made a decision to eat at the restaurant.. Very good pizza and fellowship.

May 16th , 2011 ~ The Day Has Arrived

The whole school came together to send off the Sixth Grade Class on their Mission Trip.
Mrs. Grady and Praise Team lead us in songs and Mr. Butson's class put on a skit that helped answer questions everyone had.
Some of the questions were:
1. What will we need to bring?
2. What should we wear white water rafting?
3. What will you do to help the people in Charleston?
4. How many bags can we bring?
Olivia was a little confused, Milan was way too prepared for the rafting trip, Seth was homesick already and wanted to bring his younger brother with him, Jenna packed way too much, Zech packed a cookie, a sock and sharpie, and Brendan had his electronics with him. Daniel and Alex had way too many snacks and drinks.  This was all in fun but we did have a few students that were prepared. Emma had three bags, Matthew packed his snacks properly, and Tyler was dressed properly for the rafting trip.
After eating lunch, we set off for Appalachian Bible College.
